Continue reading "Pericles Funeral Oration" up to p. 148 (bottom of page, section 42 line 10).
One of the Athenian values was courage. The soldier that they’re talking about had courage because in one of the sentences they said that he “nobly fought and he nobly died”. This can be good for the trail of Socrates because Socrates died with courage as well, he died for what he believed.

DUE FRIDAY 5/18 Apology Reading pp. 61-70
[[I have a more sincere belief, gentlemen, than any of my accusers; and I leave it to you and God to judge me in whatever way shall be best for me for yourselves.]]
I liked this sentence because God is the only one that can judge a person. In this sentence it shows that Socrates is a very brave man and that he has a lot of courage.

DUE THR 5/17 The Apology pp. 51-61
[[It would be ridiculous as to believe in the young of horses or donkeys and not horses and donkeys themselves.]]
This sentence was really interesting because it’s true; how can you not believe in something but believe in the youth of it. This sentence was really confusing but I was very interesting as well.

DUE WED 5/16 The Apology
[[I make this distinction because I have already been accused in your hearing by a great many people for a great many years, though without a word of truth; and I am more afraid of those people than I am of Anythus and his colleagues.]]
I chose this sentence because it was really interesting. In this sentence Socrates is saying that he has already been accuse for something and he’s more afraid of the people that put hi in that situation than Anythus. If I was Socrates I would’ve felt the same way; I would’ve been more mad at those people than Anythus.
